Home-improvement Diary.

So, we bought a one hundred year old house.  It was beeeeautiful from the start.  And even though the previous owners were awesomely tidy and minimalistic, there were changes to be made!  Not to mention, moving from NYC meant that we basically showed up with enough furniture to fill a shoebox and enough home improvement skills to...do nothing, basically.  But we didn't let that stop us!  Here's how it's gone so far:

Before...
After we removed some of the overgrown bush-trees...

Our backyard...before:
On our way to "after"... (I've always wanted a bench under a tree!)
Ta da! More space to play!

 And after:
 Ms Pacman under the stairs...

UPDATE: we're redoing the Basement completely.

Our updated lighting can be found below:

As for the light switches, they were a nasty brass and needed to GO. By swapping these out, we were able to update every room of the house so easily!

Our master bedroom is still a big work in progress, but here is the beginning.  While we went with an eclectic vibe in most areas of the house, I wanted the master to feel clean & contemporary.  I love vintage, but don't like the feeling of sleeping in a used "vintage" bed, so this was perfect for us!

Their sewing room = our guest room...

AFTER:
vintage vanity from my parents shore house.
My old college desk turned vanity with a coat of white paint.
painted nobs are actually from Home Depot. Go figure.

This isn't a before and after, but here is the magnificent metamorphosis of our dining room hutch.

Their living room (below) was actually super cool. It just didn't have enough stuff/seating for us.

Guess what? We paid very little for these couches because they weren't considered loveseats.  They were actually the LARGEST single person chair that the place carried (there is only one cushion)...soooo yeah...that happened.
We kept their hot green blinds because they were homemade and snazzy.
Also, this backsplash below was the result of watching the DIY network way too much over the span of a week.  I started to feel like I could do anything.  I also started to think I should quit producing and start a handy-lady business.  Not good.  However, this backsplash brought me back to reality...

MORE PICS COMING SOON...
