Road Trip - Day 6 & Morning 7

Well, I don't know how today will ever be topped. I woke up on the top of a cliff, ate breakfast above some of the Badland formations, and then saw...A WHOLE SLEW OF PRAIRIE DOGS!!!! Aaah! They were so much smaller than I had imagined (I've imagined about them a lot). And they talked to eachother. And they waddled when they ran. And shook their tail-feather before burrowing. And I loved them.  We also saw an incredibly nimble mountain goat along with a few deer/antelope-y things.  No buffalo, sadly. Oh, and The BadLands themselves.
So, let's see.  Yesterday we headed this direction but not before encountering loads of nothingness sparsly decorated with billboards and signs advertising a place called Wall Drug.  Hmm..

It was super close to our final destination, so we decided to pop in and have a look-see.  THANK Heavens we did!

May I have this dance?

After thoroughly getting our fill of posing with their weird animal statues, we went on down to the visitor center and learned where we could park our RV for the night.  Lesson of the Day: Always ask the locals questions regarding the best places to camp out because you just may end up in the most amazing spot ever. We did!  They know a LOT.

So after that, we weren't sure how to proceed.  We were hungry, excited to set up camp, but also still craving a little area culture. What better way to see what the locals are about, than to hit up the Badlands Bar? Exactly.

I highly reccommend this place.  All of the drinks were under 5 dollars. Barefoot wine and beer were 3.25.  Absolute and sodas were 3.75 and specialty daiquiri's were 5. Amaaaazing.

Just a couple friends. Hanging out.

After the bar, it was time...time to meet the best "campsite" (it was really just us all alone on a cliff) ever.  We pulled up to a rope gate, let ourselves in and then had the biggest panic attack of our lives when we saw the bluff that was about to be our home for the next 15 hours.

It was just the 4 of us, some far-off roaming cattle, and beauty as far as the eye could see.  My favorite night so far :)  But, I have a feeling I may be saying that a lot.
Dinner!!!
This morning it was a coffee-and-eggs-while-enjoying-the-peace-and-serenity-around-us kinda morning.  I truly cannot imagine discovering this sort of thing.  Even seeing it now when we knew and planned to see it doesn't stop our jaws from dropping.  And drool from dribbling onto my shorts.

After breakfast,  we were off to the Badlands National Park.  15 bucks per car/good for 7 days (ha!) of entry!

Great.

Taking some time to play with pebbles.

We're on our way to Mt. Rushmore now and then we will be back on the road towards Yellowstone National Park after that! Stay tuned!!!
xoxo
